I hope Tom doesn't apologize either

Tancredo: No apology

After seeing the blogs of the right get all hot and bothered about Rep. Tom Tanscredo's comments on WFLA-AM in Orlando the other day.

"Colorado congressman told a radio show host that the U.S. could "take out" Islamic holy sites if Muslim fundamentalist terrorists attacked the country with nuclear weapons.

Rep. Tom Tancredo made his remarks Friday on WFLA-AM in Orlando, Florida. His spokesman stressed he was only speaking hypothetically.

Talk show host Pat Campbell asked the Littleton Republican how the country should respond if terrorists struck several U.S. cities with nuclear weapons.

"Well, what if you said something like -- if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites," Tancredo answered.

"You're talking about bombing Mecca," Campbell said.

"Yeah," Tancredo responded."

You know lately, I've notice a lot of bloggers on the right taking the "high road", you know, on some things, like rising above the fray.

See Michelle Malkin's and Captain Ed's response here and here respectively. Also Hugh Hewitt here (sheesh! Hugh, take a drink of water son!).

First, I do not understand those who always try to divide Islam (religion of peace) and Islam (kill the infidels), into two camps. True that any religion has an extremist side. However these two supposed sides of Islam are really not different, but just two sides of the Moon - one dark, the other light. Any doubts? Try reading the Quran, ALL of it, as I did in college. You see both facets. If one would visit MECCA as I have, it is place where you will see many extremist groups congregated - as well as the non extremist. Check out this site and get some education on Islam perhaps you don't know about.

Moreover, Islam, more than any other world religion is one that advocates violence to "spread the word. In fact, to quote a friend: "there are more than 100 verses in the Qur'an advocating the use of violence to spread Islam. In the Qur'an, Allah commands Muslims, 'Take not the Jews and Christians as friends....Slay the idolaters [non-Muslims] wherever ye find them.... Fight against such...as believe not in Allah...' (Surah 5:51; 9:5,29,41, etc..)

This is in the Quran. Even though some Muslims would shrink from it, it is there nonetheless.

Lashawn Barber weighs in and agrees he shouldn't apologize. Instapunk follows my thoughts a little on this as well.
