Dean is not an effective leader of the Democratic party.
Which is why, I think, today's young and talented individuals (Even those who are somewhat conservative) should actively *join* the Democratic party.
Think about it. On the one hand, the Republicans control most seats of power. They have an established heirarchy, tons of leadership waiting to come down the tubes over the next ten to twenty years, and an established set of core interest groups who will restrict their options for change.
The Democrats, by contrast, are in total disarray, and are suffering a major leadership vacuum.
For a smart and talented individual who wants to rise up in the ranks and rise up fast, which party offers greater opportunities?

The one with a leadership vacuum.
