The NY Times lead on this defines their editorial bias:
WASHINGTON, June 23 - Military doctors at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, have aided interrogators in conducting and refining coercive interrogations of detainees, including providing advice on how to increase stress levels and exploit fears, according to new, detailed accounts given by former interrogators."
Read the rest (keep calm).
As a trained interogator while in the US Army, I can tell you this isn't news. In fact a good journalist would have known that - unless they have a bias and are just trying to write a "hit piece". Have you ever heard of "Psychological Warfare?" It's called PSYOPS. Here is a link to help you get up on what PSYOPS is about. From the article you find that when used correctly it saves lives - not destroys them:
Excerpt:
"How successful was the US PSYOP campaign in Desert Storm? The International Red Cross reported that nearly 87,000 Iraqi soldiers turned themselves over to coalition forces, most of them clutching the leaflets or hiding them in their clothing. All incidents of surrender were bloodless. Perhaps the best testimony to the effectiveness of PSYOP was given by an Iraqi General when he stated that:
"PSYOP...was a great threat to troop morale, second only to the coalition bombing campaign.""
Again, we are trying to get these people to talk, not "make them comfortable" and give them cookies and milk. These aren't tourists, they are terrorists - the worst of the worst. If they had the chance they would take you captive and probably kill you without a blinking.
In case you don't know it, many of these terrorists' have recieved extensive training in withstanding interogation and as we know for a fact, were told to lie about abuses.
Using their medical records (Gee, you mean they get medical treatment in the "Gulag"?) isn't torture and as far as a violation of "professional ethics" that's up for the Physcological community to debate. But it's not torture. We are trying to prevent further attacks on American soil. We are trying to prevent another 3000 people dead (remember?).
Psychologists are also used in police work to "profile" suspects and this includes obtaining medical records for use in investigations. In short, this isn't news - but that won't satisfy the critics - they'll continue their rants. I'll bet, now they'll compare these doctors to the Nazi doctors used in the camps.
HINT for libs: There is no comparison - don't try it!
Sure the MSM will have a ball tomorrow on this and the UN 'investigation', but can we really expect the MSM and left to stop "Gitmo" bashing now? Heck no, as I said, nothing more sad to watch than a dying animal.
UPDATE: Why isn't the NY Times covering this? (Hat tip Instapundit)
