Ex-CIA Larry Johnson - "What Terrorism?"

This tidbit about Larry C. Johnson, Ex-CIA, and former deputy director of the U.S. State Department's Office of Counter Terrorism (1989-1993), on Slate.com's "Chatterbox"- entry by Timothy Noah:

"Judging from news reports and the portrayal of villains in our popular entertainment, Americans are bedeviled by fantasies about terrorism. They seem to believe that terrorism is the greatest threat to the United States and that it is becoming more widespread and lethal. They are likely to think that the United States is the most popular target of terrorists. And they almost certainly have the impression that extremist Islamic groups cause most terrorism.

"None of these beliefs are based in fact. ... While terrorism is not vanquished, in a world where thousands of nuclear warheads are still aimed across the continents, terrorism is not the biggest security challenge confronting the United States, and it should not be portrayed that way."

Of course Larry's judgement was proven wrong on September 11th. Yet more important, his view of "world terrorism" potential was shared by many in the CIA and State Department right up to the war in Iraq.

You could therefore taste the tension when the White House didn't agree with Larry's ( and other's in the CIA/State Department) assessment after September 11th.

As they say, "The Battle was On!"

I think Mr. Johnson's views, or rather "biases" then are a key to this "mystery".

Over at Rightwing Nuthouse, Rick Moran profiles Mr. Johnson's as well as other ex-CIA ops backgrounds who are pushing the Plame Game. The feeling you get from reading about these guys is that they may just be the "sources" for all the leftist moonbat conspiracy theories about Iraq we have been hearing over the last two years.

There is definitely a partisan agenda here, and it has nothing to do with sticking up for Valerie Plame. This is about toppling the President and the Administration. This: Is Treason.

Red State's take Mr. Johnson.
