Keeping "The Bomb" in Perspective

Films reveal original Ground Zero Footage

This week, as in previous years the coverage around the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki talks of the "human suffering" of the people of those two cities. We have all seen the horrific pictures taken in the days, weeks and months afterward, causing some to say, "How could America do such a thing?"

The Answer: Because it had to be done!

First, I never hope to see a repeat of nuclear warfare in my or anyone else's lifetime. But this was necessary - Japan HAD to be stopped.

What continually gets missed in remembering this event is the staggering truth of the incredible attrocities that the nation of Japan committed not only during WWII, but for nearly sixty years previously. Attrocities commited against the people of China and more specifically Korea, and even it's own people. Ethnic cleansings, mass murder, germ warfare experimentation, gas chambers, biological weapons used on civilians were common place for the "Land of the Rising Sun".

Yet you didn't hear about many of these things because of the revisionism that has taken place for nearly 40 years after the war, and continues today aided by a liberal media which refuses to tell you the truth about the monster Japan used to be.

My wife, whom I've been married to for 23 years, is Korean - ask her about Japenese rule. For 36 years Japan occupied Korea with an iron fist, killing, maiming, pillaging and destroying everything in their path.

When it came to choices, the US had the means and the guts to take the ulimate "shot" to end a war - that by the way, they didn't start. Millions upon millions were tortured and exterminated under Japanese colonialism. The result of the two atomic bombs was that it broke the back of the will of Japan to continue and that saved countless millions of other lives.

If two cities - industrial complexes in Japan's war machine had to be vaporized to accomplish this - thank God we did it.

Here is more on the mission of the Enola Gay which dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.

Rick Moran at Right Wing Nuthouse has some good history on the Scientist who helped develop the bomb along with some history about the decision on how to use it.
