"Syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak, who has repeatedly declined to discuss his role in disclosing the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame, said in a speech this week that he is certain President Bush knows who his mystery administration source is.
Novak said Tuesday that the public and press should be asking the president about the official rather than pressing journalists who received the information.
Novak also suggested that the administration official who gave him the information is the same person who mentioned Plame and her CIA role to Washington Post Assistant Managing Editor Bob Woodward in the summer of 2003.
"I'm confident the president knows who the source is," Novak told a luncheon audience at the John Locke Foundation in Raleigh, N.C., on Tuesday, according to an account published yesterday in the Raleigh News & Observer. "I'd be amazed if he doesn't."
"So I say, don't bug me. Don't bug Bob Woodward. Bug the president as to whether he should reveal who the source is," Novak said."
Oooooh, line in the sand from the sand man himself.
Of all the characters of this charade, the one I find most slimey is Novak himself. Yeah, I've watched him over the years, and even supported him when he "lost it" on CNN. Fact is this "leave the media alone" crap is probably Novak's "Dove of Peace" to get his gig back on tube.
But more than that, this simply a cheap shot fired at the President. Fact is that a source tells me that Novak has been Persona Non Gratis at the White House for some time now, and like his buddy Pat Buchanan, Bob is just hitting below the belt.
Truth is that he doesn't have a clue if Bush knows or doesn't know. Even though this point who (besides beltway pundits and Vegas odds makers), gives a crap who told who told who what.
In case readers have missed it, the "leak" investigation has been over since 2004. Since then Fitz has been on the mission of looking to justify the cost of this boondoggle for the better part of two years and produces only a lame perjury/obstruction indictment. Excuse me while I throw confetti in the air and yell "Whoopie!"
Oh yeah, the title of the post....
