"WASHINGTON - Aides to Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont., said Tuesday the senator will not return donations from indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his associates, because the money has been spent.
Burns received about $150,000 in donations from Abramoff, his firm and his clients between 2001 and 2004.
North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan, the top Democrat on the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, said Monday that he is returning $67,000 in donations from the controversial lobbyist and his associates."
Fine, make him return it.....But fair is fair right?
So what about Senator Reid?
"Senate Democratic Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) sent a letter to Norton on March 5, 2002, also signed by Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev). The next day, the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana issued a $5,000 check to Reid's tax-exempt political group, the Searchlight Leadership Fund. A second Abramoff tribe also sent $5,000 to Reid's group. Reid ultimately received more than $66,000 in Abramoff-related donations from 2001 to 2004."
Gee, would just about be $67,000....
I guess to be "Fair and Balanced", the AP should be asking Senator Reid when he plans to return his money? After all, "innocent" Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan is paying back his $67,000. Tit-for-tat mate?
White they're at it, they could even cover some of these other stories as well.
