Police investigated reports of gunfire in a House office building on Friday and briefly sealed off the Capitol as a precaution.
Capitol police were investigating "the sound of gunfire in the garage level of the Rayburn House Office Building," said an announcement on the internal Capitol voice alarm system.
There was no confirmation of gunfire. The FBI and D.C. Fire Department said there have been no injuries reported.
Capitol police scheduled a noon EDT briefing.
The Senate was in session at the time, but the House was not as most lawmakers had left for the Memorial Day recess. Four ambulances were on standby outside Rayburn as police methodically searched the office building. Police lined the street between the Capitol and the Rayburn building, rifles prominently displayed.
Dozens of police officers, many of them armed with assault rifles, milled around ouside the entrance to the garage.
UPDATE at Noon....
Have a source on the scene. Updates upcoming...
UPDATE: Per source, possibly a false report, or even hoax, came in via Capital Hill police 911 center. No witness of a anyone with a weapon; this apparently happened about 10:30am this morning.
Allah Pundit reporting EMS on the scene and TAC team. Nothing there, that's normal procedure.
Heh...Rush Limbaugh reporting that there has been NO report of ABC New's Brian Ross being held by Speaker Hastert...
UPDATE; per CNN, two women came out of the Rayburn Gym stating that there was a man with a gun in the gym, Expose the left with a video feed of women being taken by EMS. Doesn't appear that there are any injuries.
UPDATE: 2pm EST: Seems it was like I said, just a call from someone who 'heard' shots fired.
By the way this is NOT what I meant by "Bang of a Summer".
