Special Treatment?

"9 News has learned U.S. Capitol police officers are concerned about the handling of an accident involving Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-Rhode Island) about 3 a.m. this morning.

Rep. Kennedy was reportedly behind the wheel of a green Ford Mustang when it crashed into a security barrier at 1st and "C" streets Southeast.

There are no reports of injuries. We are told police escorted him home. So far, Kennedy HAS NOT been charged.

The head of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1, Lou Cannon, told 9 News that he’s concerned that Kennedy may have received special treatment and this could be a case where “rank has its privilege.”

9 News reporter Stacey Cohan spoke to Kennedy's press secretary at his congressional office in Rhode Island, who said she is looking into the situation, but does not have any information right now.

Congressman Patrick Kennedy is Ted Kennedy's son. He is currently serving his sixth term as the Democratic Congressman from Rhode Island. He sits on the powerful House Appropriations Committee."

Well Dad knows all about "special treatment" and getting away with drinking and driving - even if it kills someone.

UPDATE: Heh, this did reenforce that Democrats are Tough on Security.........Barriers!

UPDATE: Story is now:

"WASHINGTON — Rep. Patrick Kennedy says he'd taken a prescription anti-nausea drug that can cause drowsiness, but consumed no alcohol, before crashing his car near the Capitol.

In a statement, Kennedy, D-R.I., said the attending physician for Congress had prescribed Phenergan to treat Kennedy's gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

Louis P. Cannon, president of the Washington chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, who was not on the scene, said the congressman had appeared intoxicated when he crashed his Ford Mustang into a barrier on Capitol Hill.

Cannon said the officers involved in the accident were instructed by an official "above the rank of patrolman" to take Kennedy home and no sobriety tests were conducted at the scene.

Kennedy said that after working Wednesday evening he went home and took "prescribed" amounts of Phenergan and Ambien, another drug that he sometimes takes to fall asleep.

In his statement, Kennedy said he was apparently disoriented from the drugs when he got up a little before 3 a.m. Thursday and drove to the Capitol thinking he needed to be present for a vote.

"At no time before the incident did I consume any alcohol," he said."

It doesn't matter bubba. Driving while under the influence/Driving while ability impaired - both are against the law, in Washington DC. So you admit to a crime but were not charged. So the question is "who protected you" and did Dad have something to do with that? The people of Rhode Island have a right to know whether or not their representitiveis a drunk!

I think it's time for Congressional and Senate Hearings! Where's Chuck Schumer?

UPDATE III: Michelle Malkin with coverage on the coverup.

UPDATE IV: Kennedy will enter rehab. Dodges questions, talked about how he can't remember anything that night....yada, yada.
