So much for Democrats going for "faith based issues"

Remember after the 2004 elections that Democrats were baffled by exit polls that showed that "faith" and "values" mattered, and that is why they lost BIG.

Well, they still haven't learned a thing, as today as the House debated a shield on the Pledge of Allegiance protection against frivilous challeges by atheists who can't stand the name of God.

"WASHINGTON - House debate on a bill to protect the Pledge of Allegiance from legal challenges because of the "under God" phrase erupted in heated rhetoric Wednesday with lawmakers from both parties using religious references to support their side.

"We are making an all-out assault on the Constitution of the United States which, thank God, will fail," said Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi in opposition to the bill barring most federal courts from ruling on the pledge.

The pledge protection act, expected to pass over mainly Democratic opposition, is part of the House GOP's "American values agenda" that House Speaker Dennis Hastert said would "defend America's founding principles." Another part of that agenda, a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, was defeated in the House on Tuesday."

I'm loving it! Thank you Ms. Pelosi, you always show your true colors when it counts.

"The debate at times became angry, with Democrats accusing Republicans of spending time on issues important to their conservative base while ignoring the problems of the country and resisting efforts to raise the minimum wage.

"This is a joke," said Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., "that this majority would talk about God and yet not even work to raise the wages of the very people that are taking care of the children of God."

Yeah Patrick, a joke, like driving into a barrade at 3am ("I'm goning to a meeting (hic!) to vote!). What does the Party of Death know about "God" - nada - never has. The fact that they would worry about "mininum wage" when they have no problem punching a hole in the head of a 7 month old baby is anything but "Godly".

Yet I love it when they "act" religious, but when it comes to action show their "secular humunistic" side every time. We need more of these kinds of debates through the summer and expose even more just who the Democrat party really is.

UPDATE: House passes legislation to protect the Pledge of Alligiance.

"WASHINGTON — The House, citing the nation's religious origins, voted Wednesday to protect the Pledge of Allegiance from federal judges who might try to stop schoolchildren and others from reciting it because of the phrase "under God."

The legislation, a priority of social conservatives, passed 260-167. It now goes to the Senate where its future is uncertain.

"We should not and cannot rewrite history to ignore our spiritual heritage," said Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn. "It surrounds us. It cries out for our country to honor God."

Opponents said the legislation, which would bar federal courts from ruling on the constitutional validity of the pledge, would undercut judicial independence and would deny access to federal courts to religious minorities seeking to defend their rights.

Errr, that's the point we don't want Judges with "independence" legislating from the bench.
